Earth Hives - Micro Architecture
Technical Specifications
Wood, Kashkal
Dimensions
4*2*2 Meters
Musalala Association, Jerusalem 2021
The Hive is a minimalist, sustainable guest unit conceived for the rooftop camping space of the Muslala Association in Jerusalem—an urban sanctuary where art, ecology, and community intersect.
Rooted in principles of circular design, the structure is composed primarily of recycled materials and natural building techniques. Its walls are insulated with kashkal, an earthen blend of straw and clay that breathes with the climate, offering thermal comfort while grounding the architecture in age-old ecological wisdom. Atop the structure, a green roof supports a custom irrigation system, transforming the unit into a living, regenerative organism that interacts with its environment.
This micro-architecture is more than a shelter—it is an invitation to rethink how we inhabit urban spaces. The Hive explores how minimalism and sustainability can coexist, offering both refuge and reflection in the heart of the city.
